*All Bookings are made directly with the hotel, when you decide to book you will be asked to complete a brief booking form which will be sent directly to the hotel. The hotel staff will then contact you back with a personal quotation and confirmation of availability as soon as possible. Please understand that during the off season it may take a little longer for the hotel to respond as there will only be a skeleton staff during this period.
Unlike many other retreats, we never cancel retreats due to low numbers so, once your booking is confirmed by the hotel, you are safe to book flights and make your other arrangements without any fear of the retreat not going ahead.
For your health and safety we do not currently offer room sharing for solo travellers. If you wish to share a room with somebody, it is your responsibility to find, organise and vet your choice of room-mate and you must both book the retreat at the same time. You can read more about this in our FAQs here.
Please read out more about our selected hotels on our accommodation page by clicking here.
Please note that the amount of available rooms on single basis is limited.
Why go on retreat?
Taking the time to go on a Retreat is one of the best ways to care for yourself, it is an excellent way to break free of old, destructive behaviour patterns that no longer serve you, release self- judgements, let go of fears and encourage yourself to change, heal and live more self sustainably. It gives you time to focus on yourself, your needs and what makes you happy.
If you are feeling physically, mentally or emotionally stressed, and whether you are new to yoga or an experienced practitioner, you can benefit both physically and emotionally from coming on a retreat. By committing more time, space and energy to yourself on retreat, your practice you will advance on both physical and emotional levels and you will leave feeling more relaxed, renewed and energised. Retreats allow you to go deeper, leaving behind the usual distractions of our everyday life and arrive into a new space of self-reflection and acceptance.
What an average day on retreat like?
Mantra Meditation is a powerful practice that develops with repetition, for this reason our retreat will follow a very structured program. Our first day will be dedicated to learning the theory, and will include:
- the positions of Sun Salutations
- the pronunciation and meaning of the mantras
- an introduction to the symbolism of the Bodhisattva Avolekitesvara
- an introduction to the mala
- mantra to empower the mala.
The rest of the week will be dedicated to the experiential practice and the practices will be repeated each day in order to develop and deepen the mantra.
Each morning begins with a Sun Salutation Class with Mantra, we will be learning the different postures, the mantras, and we will be working gently, with the spirit of loving kindness, taking breaks whenever we need to. The practice will develop over the week until it becomes a holistic meditational experience of body, sound and breath. The second half of the morning class will be dedicated to Pranayama to develop the lungs, and to open the breath ready for the Pranava Aum Meditation.
In the afternoons you can continue working with the mantra in your own time, or book a one to one mentoring session to discuss your experiences with the practice. Or alternatively you can get out and about or take one of the optional excursions on offer.
In the early evening there will be a guided Metta (Loving Kindness) and Mantra Meditation followed by a guided Yoga Nidra. We will be working with the mantra of compassion, Om mani padme hum. Mantra Practice has been demonstrated to have significant benefits on physical, emotional and holistic health and has the effect of quieting the incessant stream of thoughts that too often take over our existence and take us away from feeling happiness and our moment to moment experience of life.
“By vibrating in rhythm with the breath to a particular sound that is proportional to the creative sound, or sound current, one can expand one’s sensitivity to the entire spectrum of vibration. It is similar to striking a note on a stringed instrument. In other words, as you vibrate, the Universe vibrates with you.”
The exact schedule is set by Alex, the retreat leader, and can vary according to weather and other circumstances.
At Galanias Hotel there is a beautiful dedicated Yoga Shala, the classes are either held in the Shala, on an private terrace area, or on the beach at sunrise and sunset.
What’s the vibe like?
This retreat will suit anyone interested in Mantra, self reflection and deep relaxation or for those looking for a quiet retreat with smaller numbers. Like going back in time to a more peaceful, quieter and simpler way of life. This is a peaceful, mindful retreat in a region of Sardinia well known for it’s vineyards and the local red wine, Cannonau, which is made from the grape variety of the same name that is native to the area. The people of Ogliastra are passionate about their traditions and there are festivals throughout the year celebrating their history, culture and cuisine. Our retreat groups are usually small, between 1 and 15 people, we prefer to be able to work in small groups so everyone gets our full attention! It also means that you have more time to address any specific issues you may have with your practice, in a safe and compassionate atmosphere. You might even get a completely personalised retreat as we never cancel our retreats due to low numbers.
We strongly recommend hiring a car for the duration of your stay, there is so much wonderful scenery to see here, and the roads are generally quiet if a little curvy and interesting!
Sardinia has 3 Airports served by low cost direct flights from Europe and the UK. The closest is Cagliari and is 1 and a half hours drive away, the next nearest is Olbia, 2- 2.5 hours drive away, then Alghero is the furthest away, at about 3 hours drive away.
