Self Catering Winter Retreats
Fancy a winter retreat? From October to April we are offering self catering retreats with a 2 hour yoga class each weekday morning, either at the beach or at your apartment, depending on temperature and weather conditions. These self catering apartment retreats will suit anyone wanting to have a personalised experience, either on their own or travelling with a group of friends or family.
Coming to Sardinia during winter for a retreat means total relaxation and peace…there are virtually no other tourists around, the beaches are all deserted and you can immerse yourself in creating some real inner peace and serenity. Spend your free time exploring the stunning natural beauty of the area, walking, reading, taking a leisurely drive exploring mountains, archaeological sites, waterfalls, lakes and all the little beaches and coves of Ogliastra. Take a total break from the hectic pace of life, the constant need to be connected with social media and manic mental mind streams. Take a step back in time, and live with a slower pace of life for a time, give your nervous system a well earned retreat from the constant stress and never-ending adrenal stimulus.
Where you will stay
These modern apartments are located less than 5km from the 10km long beach of Cardedu, which has a mixture of fine and coarse white sand. The apartments are side by side, meaning if there is a larger group of you organising to come together, you will all be in the same location and the covered patio and poolside terrace offer a lovely way to pass a lazy afternoon in the winter sun, reading and enjoying the fresh air of Sardinia. All apartments have 2 double bedrooms, a kitchen, one shared bathroom, with a toilet, shower and bidet. There are modern appliances; a washing machine, dishwasher, flat screen TVs, Wi-Fi and even Playstations available too. Apartment C also has one en-suite bedroom, large covered terrace and grassed garden. There is heating for winter and air conditioning for summer.
Additional Retreat Options
A 2 hour morning class, each weekday (total 5 per week), is included in the price, which can contain Hatha Yoga, Pranayama, Mindfulness Meditation and Discussion and Guided Relaxation or Yoga Nidra. However, we can also offer you holistic massage, aromatherapy massage or Reiki healing at other times by appointment. Plus, if you want to become a Reiki Practitioner, we can arrange a course for you to learn, including atunements, empowerments and certificates, for level 1 or level 2 Reiki Practitioner. If you wish to add on any other retreat options, just let us know on your booking form and we can send you a personalised, no obligation quotation for your chosen options.
The classes and activities are held either on the covered terrace at the apartment, on the beach or on our own Zen Terrace Garden (about 10 minutes drive from the apartments).
There are plenty of places to visit within the local area, we have a handy Google Map you can download to your phone here. Within a short drive you can find ancient Nuraghe and abandoned villages to explore, mountains, waterfalls, lakes, beaches, coves, waterfalls, etc. There is plenty of animal life to keep you entertained, where a Sardinian “Traffic Jam” is when the sheep are herded along the roads by their dogs, a herd of goats or cows can be spotted on the road, or some donkeys stick their head through the car window to see if you have anything interesting to give them! Along with the wilder side of Sardinia, offering glimpses of Mufflone (a native deer like animal), birds of prey, and lots of fast moving lizards to those with a keen eye.
If you fancy Kayaking, Mountian biking, E-Bike tours or hiking with a local guide, we have some great contacts to help you organise your excursions.
If you don’t fancy cooking the local, fresh produce yourself, then there are numerous restaurants available at the local towns within a short drive or bike ride, and a pizzeria at the beach which is open at weekends throughout the year.
The local town of Cardedu has all the essentials open all year with 3 supermarkets, one fruit and veg shop, a butchers, a fresh pasta shop and a cake shop, along with various other local shops, cafes and restaurants.
The closest international airport is Cagliari, which is about a 1.5 hour drive away, there are another 2 international airports on the island at Olbia and Alghero.
Car hire is essential in winter months for transfers and for getting out and exploring the area.
Travel insurance is recommended to cover you for cancellations from the time of your booking.

So what can you expect from the weather in the winter here? Well it varies, but I have to say it’s pretty rare we get a whole week with bad weather. From a sunny beach, you could look behind you and see snow on the mountains at times during January and February. I have lived here all year round for 6 years and I can count on one hand the number of times there has been a whole week with no blue skies at all.
You can check out the average temperatures and rainfall for Sardinia here. But here in Ogliastra, we have our own little micro-climates, it can be thunder and lightning and rain in the mountains, and bright sunshine on the beach…
October and November are amazing, with the sea temperatures still warm from the summer months, and from February through to May we start to see spring arriving with all the greenery super lush and the flowers starting to bloom. We have also been seen paddling and walking in our tee-shirts even during December and January.
